CzechGlobe participated at consultation workshop of SEACRIFOG project on EU-African cooperation in Zambia

As part of the H2020 SEACRIFOG Euro-African cooperation project (Supporting EU-African Cooperation on Research Infrastructures for FOod security and Greenhouse gas observations, https://www.seacrifog.eu/), we co-organized a consultation stakeholder workshop focusing on three main topics: (i) land use change implications for food security, (ii) greenhouse gas observations and climate change mitigation, (iii) capacity development.

The workshop took place on 18th April 2018 in Lusaka, Zambia, as a side event of SASSCAL Science Symposium 2018. The event was organized in cooperation with SEACRIFOG project partners - SASSCAL (Southern African Science Service Centre for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management), CMCC (Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change), ICOS (Integrated Carbon Observation System), and Thünen Institute of Climate-Smart Agriculture.

The workshop was attended by 30 representatives of the academic sector, governmental institutions and non-governmental organizations from South Africa, such as Zambia, Botswana, Angola, South Africa, and Namibia. The discussion focused on identifying user needs and knowledge gaps for the development of research infrastructure in the area of greenhouse gas monitoring, land use change as well as capacity building needs. Outputs from the participatory workshop will be used to design a suitable greenhouse gas monitoring system on the African continent, which is the ultimate goal of SEACRIFOG project.
