Two new IPBES Assessments are being shaped by CzechGlobe researchers

The Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services has launched two major new assessments: The Transformative Change Assessment, and the Nexus Assessment. Researchers from the Department of Human Dimensions of Global Change are taking important roles in both.

Dr. Zuzana Harmáčková is a coordinating lead author for the Nexus Assessment, and is joined by Helena Duchková as a fellow. The Nexus Assessment will inform understandings of the trade-offs and synergies between biodiversity, water, food and health. It will include links between biodiversity and climate change.

Prof. Julia Leventon is a coordinating lead author for the Transformative Change Assessment. The assessment will identify and understand factors of behavioural, cultural, social, economic, institutional, technical and technological dimensions that can create transformative change for the protection and restoration of biodiversity and broader sustainable development goals.

As coordinating lead authors, Zuzana and Julia will take overall responsibility for chapters of the assessment reports, including coordinating the author teams, and steering input and content in those chapters. As a fellow, Helena will contribute research and knowledge and participate in the author teams.

The three researchers are excited to be involved in the assessments, which cover the core research interests of the Department of Human Dimensions. They look forward to expanding understandings of societal interactions with biodiversity, and opportunities for sustainable futures.

Both assessments start this month and run until the end of 2024.
