This year marks 10 years since the ICOS research consortium, after many years of preparatory work, was granted the status of a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC). ICOS provides high-quality data on greenhouse gas concentrations and carbon fluxes between the atmosphere, land, and oceans, which form an essential basis for climatology and climate change mitigation measures. Over the past decade, ICOS has grown into a strong community of researchers, networks of stations, and facilities supported by contributions from member countries and the European Commission.
To mark this milestone, celebrations of the 10th anniversary were held at the University of Helsinki from 25–27 November 2025. The rich programme, aimed at scientists, technicians, and key members of the ICOS community, representatives of funding bodies, policymakers, collaborators from other infrastructures, and other invited guests, included an information day, hands-on expert seminars and workshops, panel discussions, a General Assembly, and an assembly of monitoring stations. For the first time, a joint Super Assembly was held, bringing together all three ICOS domains – ecosystems, atmosphere, and ocean. The celebrations also featured a social programme and two excursions to Finnish stations belonging to the ICOS network.
Since the very beginning of the preparatory phase, CzechGlobe has been part of the ICOS consortium as a founding member and was represented by four delegates at the anniversary meeting.
