Dr. Marta Alicja Kolanowska of CzechGlobe has received the prestigious Maxwell/Hanrahan foundation award for 2021. Since 2020, the award has annually been given to five outstanding young scientists working in field biology who meet demanding criteria.
These criteria take into account the potential of the research and its fundamental contribution to field biology, excellence and originality of the research and its preconditions for a substantial shift and advancement in the field. The award comes with a cash prize of $ 100,000 to support the research, so one of the award criteria is how additional research funding can contribute to future breakthrough discoveries.
Marta Kolanowska was awarded for studying and documenting the most diverse families of flowering plants. She also demonstrated how human activity and forest loss affect orchids.
