Anotace projektu:
The project aims to contribute to transnational cooperation towards sustainable Carpathians by activities focused to interconnection of science, education, policy and people. Nowadays, in the period of fast societal and environmental changes the sustainability of human activities becomes crucial theme. Environmental problems are now more visible and concern everyone. Therefore, the society and general public more and more reflect environmental issues, particularly sensitive to them is young generation. These changes in public attitude to environmental issues and increasing environmental pressures present opportunity to science, but also new challenge how to transfer effectively scientific knowledge related to sustainable solutions to policy and general public. The Visegrad countries share significant proportion of the Carpathian mountains. The sustainability of Carpathians is the main aim of the Carpathian Convention (CC; Framework Convention on the Protection and Sustainable Development of the Carpathians). Thus, the relevant policy framework exists. Despite signing the Memorandum of Understanding between CC and S4C in 2012, sometimes the research topics and outcomes are far from the input, which is needed for the CC Secretariat. Therefore increased communication between S4C with CC and its Working Groups (WGs) is needed. The CC feels a strong need of interdisciplinary research and this issue should be addressed by S4C as well. S4C should better communicate and address the policy makers and decision makers, they should be also invited and involved to S4C activities. The project is co-financed by the Governments of Czechia, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia through Visegrad Grants from International Visegrad Fund (total budget 19 100 Euro). The mission of the fund is to advance ideas for sustainable regional cooperation in Central Europe. www.visegradfund.org
